about the guitars Ed uses, click here. Ed's parents bought him an Eminee plastic guitar for his 10th birthday. He practiced like a crazy person and started jamming with his friend, who only had a snare drum. The two of them would go into the damp, dark basement of his building and try to play some basic tunes. Ed continued to play away on that plastic guitar, trying to play everything he heard, even after the instrument started to warp. The only time he would stop was when the strings got too sticky with blood. Ed finally got a real guitar and at the age of 15 went professional, playing in the band of one of the original members of the Ventures. During the 70's, Ed played the New York circuit and was the featured lead guitarist for a number of prominent local groups. Thos groups played mostly progressive rock covers, including music from Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, and ELP, along with original music. Ed's primary influences include such great guitar players as Steve Howe, Steve Hackett, Joe Pass, Andres Segovia, Carlos Santana, Kazuhito Yamashita, David Gilmour, Sharon Isbin, Mark Knopfler, and Martin Barre. |
