Narration: At last, in their hunger and despair, the Children began to turn on one another brother against brother, sister against sister. Before long they had all fled the destruction of the City and had scattered in every direction. Of all the people only Makhta, Brave Woman, and Cikala, Little Eagle, continued to follow the ways of Iliana. They fled from the City and journeyed across the great desert and high into the mountains to escape the chaos below. Many people knew of the faith of Makhta and Cikala, repented and followed with them. |
Notes: There is a White River Sioux legend concerning Brave Woman and Little Eagle. Brave Womans brothers are killed and she must go into battle to honor them before she can marry. This is kind of a reference to the "Trail of Tears," although the White Man has no involvement this time. Because of the collapse of their agricultural system, the Children are forced to hunt and fish and live in the mountains. Theres no evidence that this is where the Anasazi went, but it seems as plausible as anything else. |
