Narration: The descendants of Huwuni and Khokomaht kept true to the Blessingway, and they multiplied and spread across the land, even unto the sea. They built a great stone city and hunted the wide-open spaces and farmed great fields of corn. And the crops were good and they all had plenty. So the Children gathered for a great Festival in the City of Rock. |
Notes: There are many rituals relating to the harvest, not just in Native American culture. The City of Rock is an allusion to cities such as the Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde and others at places like Canyon de Chelley. These were occupied by the Anasazi and represented incredible feats of architecture and engineering. They provided for an agricultural lifestyle and things like the harvest were taken very seriously and celebrated vigorously. This is the period of the noontide of the Children. |
