Narration: When the Children had awakened Iliana gave them the gifts of language and understanding, and she named the male Khokomaht, which means "all-father" and the female Huwuni, which means "first light of dawn." And she instructed them in the Blessingway, and she taught them to respect all life and all the things of the Earth. They all made a covenant together: That as long as the Children were true to the Blessingway, she would always send Maksu, the Wolf, to protect them in their hour of need. The Children asked: "Where can we find you Great Mother?" To which she said: "In all things you may find me. In the mountains and the sky. In the valleys and the rivers. You can hear my voice in the Four Winds and the waterfalls. But you can only come to me with your heart, for I am Love." |
Notes: Blessingway is a Navajo religious construct to ensure good luck, good health, and blessings for all that pertains to them. Maksu is the Comanche word for Wolf. The Wolf is highly respected as a symbol of strength and steadfastness in Comanche culture. Huwuni and Khokomaht are from Comanche. |
