As the Spirit Spring began to ebb, Iliana fashioned two new creatures from the mud. Ganshuu built an oven for his Mother, and Evatna built a fire. And Iliana baked the Children for a long while until they were ready to awaken.

This comes from a Pima legend. The legend actually first depicts the creation of the White Man as a slight mistake. The Coyote convinces the creator that the cooking is done. It turns out that the new creatures were not baked long enough so the Creator places them far across the ocean. It wasn’t until the third try that the Creator finally stopped listening to Tsaina and got it right. The final result are the Deni, the People.
