Pavan is a progressive exploration of a style of  Italian court dance music that dates back to 1508 to Padua. This song was really brought into existence because of the name of the previous song, Tears. After Tears was written, I found the name reminded me of the name of a song from a Strawbs album called Tears and Pavan. I also remembered an old piece from my school days by Ravel, called Pavane de la Belle. I thought this form would adapt very well to progressive rock. Pavan is a celebration of the dance of life.
